# Step-by-Step Instructions
TIP
These instructions assume the steps in Freestyle Tablet Setup are complete.
These instructions outline the procedures for using the Scoring App as a judge.
When not scoring a routine, the main screen used is the Athlete Screen. This is used to navigate between heats, verify the entry/athlete, launch the scoring screen, view the results after scoring and advance to the next heat.
If you are not on the athlete screen and instead see a login screen with a username/password, try pressing the Athlete button. If this doesn't work, get help from your competition team, using the instructions in the [Freestyle Tablet Setup]{,.freestyle-setup} instructions.
Athlete Screen Workflow overview:
- Verify the heat number, entry number are correct for the upcoming athlete/group in the station
- Open the scoresheet to be prepare to score the entry
- Score the entry using the scoring buttons in the app
- Use Done to complete and close the scoring for that entry
- Write down the result information from the scoring screen to the paper journal scoresheet
- Click Next to advance to the next heat and start again at step #1
Let's look at those steps in more detail:
# Verify the heat number, entry number are correct for the upcoming athlete/group in the station
It is critically important that the right scores go to the right athletes, so the judging app asks the judge to verify this in three ways. The heat number should be sequential through the day, counting up. The Entry number is unique for that athlete/team competing that type of event. The names are also listed as a final verification. All three of these checkboxes must be checked before proceeding.
Once these are checked, the Scoring button will be enabled.
# Open the scoresheet to be prepare to score the entry
Tap the Scoring button to open the scoresheet. This does two things: it lets you score the routine, but also tells the announcer and other officials that you are ready. The scoring service tracks when the scoresheet is opened and shows that in real-time to tournament staff. The competition will not proceed until all judges have the scoresheet open.
TIP
If you accidentally open the wrong scoresheet or aren't ready, triple-tap the Cancel button to return to the Athlete screen without submitting a score.
TIP
If you accidentally mark a score for an entry before it starts, or an entry has to reset (e.g. for a broken rope), triple-tap the Reset button to clear any marks you have made and reset the scoresheet to an empty state.
# Score the entry using the scoring buttons in the app
Following the procedures in judge training, score the routine using he buttons on the screen.
If there is a broken rope or other reason that the entry will not be scored, please wait for instruction from the tournament officials on what to do. In this situation, do not submit the score or cancel until told to do so.
# Use Done to complete and close the scoring for that entry
Immediately after the routine os over, triple-tap the Done button to submit the score and return to the athlete screen. From here you can see the results of the entry. In the background your score will automatically be sent.
# Write down the result information from the scoring screen to the paper journal scoresheet
While the scoring process runs electronically, we keep a paper backup as well. You will hve a journal scoresheet in your station. Write down the Entry Number from the complete routine and fill in the boxes with the score details. All of the boxes should be filled out except in Required Elements area where some elements do not apply to every event type.
If you made a mistake in scoring or need to make any corrections, get help from your tournament official. They may ask you to note those corrections to the right of that score entry so they can be made when the sheets are collected.
# Click Next to advance to the next heat and start again at step #1
This entry is scored so it's time to move to the next heat and entry. Click the Next button to advance to the next entry and start at the first step again.
